Julie was born in Richmond to parents Betty Catherine May and David Kenneth May, and was the eldest of their four children. Having spent her early professional years in various biotech and sales roles, Julie became a mother to Nicola in the winter of 1996, followed by Ben in the heat of summer in 2000. She dedicated her love, time and energy to their care and will continue to be their guiding light.
Julie will be remembered fondly as someone who was highly generous, thoughtful, and kind. No request was ever too large, and she would always make time for those who needed her. Julie was a fighter, survivor, nurturer, and added her sparkle to the lives of those who loved her. She maintained a strong presence in her beloved community as a force for good across various charitable and political ventures, and, of course was a proud supporter of the Richmond Tigers!
Julie was loved and treasured by her family and friends, and will be missed terribly.
Thank you for adding a memory. It means a lot to comfort families and to keep the memory of Julie alive.

Our first meeting more than twenty years ago captured the essence of Julie, my dearest friend. I barely knew her, yet she went out of her way — with Ben in the baby car seat — to drop off a kindergarten enrolment form for my son. I remember feeling deeply appreciative of her kindness and thoughtfulness. It was the beginning of a special friendship; one I had hoped would continue for many more years.
Years later, when Julie heard that our family was thinking about adopting a dog, she immediately sprang into action, checking shelters and keeping an eye out for the right match. Julie was always so comfortable with dogs, while I was still learning to overcome my fear of them. She found Rosie, our gentle border collie, and somehow knew instinctively that Rosie would be perfect for us. Julie helped me face my phobia with warmth, kindness, and empathy, and I will forever be grateful for what she did for our family.
I will miss her beautiful smile, her generous heart, and her dry wit. Julie brought a quiet reassuring strength and light into my life that I will always carry with me.
Nic & Ben
I have no words that can fully hold the sadness I feel for you and for the whole May family. Your mum was someone I loved deeply. You were her shining lights, the centre of her pride and joy.
I will carry with me the memory of her beautiful smile, her kindness, and the gentle way she supported my family. Those moments stay with me, and so does the warmth she brought into our lives.
Please know that I am here for both of you, always, and in whatever way you need.
Julie, my dear irreplaceable friend.
47 years of a true, loving friendship with you has been an integrable part of my life. Your generosity of spirit, wicked sense of humour, intelligence, dry wit and loyalty are just a handful of your many qualities.Barely a week would go by without a long chat over the phone for an hour or two, discussing all that was happening in our lives, a fair bit of world politics but thankfully the AFL was out of bounds.
It has been and will continue to be an honour to be Nicola's godmother. What a kind, generous & beautiful soul she is, just like you.
It is so desperately sad to say goodbye to you. Rest peacefully.
Deep condolences to Nic, Ben, Sue, Cheryl, David and your families.
Condolences to Nic, Ben, Sue, David, Cheryl and families my thoughts are with you all.
My sister from another mister.” “My yin to your yang.” They were the sayings we’d often laugh about because they described us perfectly. We just worked. Jules we shared such an incredible working life together, along with many memories that I’ll carry with me forever.
It’s rare to find a partnership where your strengths compliment each other so naturally. We had that and I never took it for granted.
After all these years, it’s hard to imagine work without you in it. I’ll miss our chats, your support and simply having you by my side. Thank you for being such a special part of my life and for the friendship we shared. I’ll miss you more than words can ever say.
Rest peacefully, Jules.
