Lawrence Briffa’s story began beneath the Mediterranean sun. Born on the 3rd October 1939 in Msida, Malta, to Pauline Borg and Carmel Briffa.
On his own, at age 21, (1961) with hope in his heart, he made the brave journey by ship across the world to call Melbourne, Australia home.
At 25, Larry married the love of his life, Mary Doris (Doris), and together they built a warm and welcoming home in Donvale. A fastidious spray painter by trade, Larry displayed meticulous pride and craftsmanship with every coat of paint on the job, as he did to every detail of his home and everything he touched in life.
Larry was a proud and loving father to Simone, Janine and Melanie. A gentle man whose heart overflowed with affection for his family and friends. With a glint in his eye, his quiet chuckle filled rooms, his kindness touched lives and his memory will forever glow in the hearts of all who knew him.
He will be deeply missed, yet never forgotten.
Thank you for adding a memory. It means a lot to comfort families and to keep the memory of Larry alive.

We both met Doris and Larry about 15 years ago at the Roma Club in Preston. Larry impressed us with his fluent and smooth dancing style. He always moved with flair and style across the floor with Doris. He was always impeccably dressed with suit and tie
When he was not dancing, I enjoyed talking with him about the A League and in particilar our favourite team, Melbourne Victory. He knew each player and analysed each game. I enjoyed our many discussions with him
Larry was always easy to talk to, always had a smile and we shared many stories together.
We will all miss Larry. Condolences to Doris and family.

My Darling Lazzy,
There aren’t many people in this life who shape you the way you did me. From the moment I met you, you welcomed me into your heart and into your home, already like your fifth daughter ❤️🔥 No questions, no judgement, just that big beautiful smile and that big beautifulheart of yours. For thirty years I was in and out of your home, and every single time it felt like walking into safety, warmth and love.
Mel and I were little rebels, always up to something, always on the go… and yet you never once worried when I was with her. It was like you instinctively knew your daughter was safe with me, and I always felt safe with you. You listened when I had problems, you gave advice that came straight from the heart, and not once in all those years did you ever judge me.
I still remember those mornings after Mel and I had been disco’ing all night — when we’d stumble out of the room late, and you’d look at us with that cheeky little smile and say, “Late night, girls?” Those moments are stitched into my heart forever.
You were like a dad to me — in ways deeper and more loving than you will ever know. You showed me what a true gentleman is. You showed me patience, kindness, softness, and strength. You loved me so openly and so beautifully, and I will carry that with me for the rest of my life.
Oh, Lazzy… I loved you with all my heart. I will always love you. Thank you for everything you gave me, thank you for guiding me, for caring for me, for being such a steady, gentle force in my life. I am truly blessed to have had you so close.
Until I see you again, my Lazzy.
I love you endlessly.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I will miss your many cups of teas and of course your cheery face at 10am sharp in the Clubs kitchen. And of course you had to have that apple and cinnamon muffin.
Will miss you Larry. R.I.P.
