Our favourite husband, father, son, brother, cousin, project manager, soccer coach, and friend sadly passed away on Boxing Day.
Matt knew that the end was approaching and went out in style, with 18 months chock-full of caravanning, travel, new boats, new cars, many new toys and plenty of time with his family and friends.
What better way to celebrate his life than with a casual outdoor gathering in his new hometown of Cedar Creek.
Please help us to keep his memory alive by contributing to this page your stories and photos. It will serve as a wonderful memento of the varied aspects of his life.
Thank you for adding a memory. It means a lot to comfort families and to keep the memory of Matt alive.

Matt, working with you on and off for fifteen years you taught me so much; about the rail network, that it was OK to say bullshit out loud over a Ministerial, and what food would last the longest in a drawer. You will be sorely missed. I was very sorry not to be able to be at the memorial.

Fletch, learning the bizarre world of major rail projects wouldn’t have been the same without you. Thank you for always being so generous with your time and knowledge, and so infectiously positive even in the face of adversity. It was so nice to have had some chats over Messenger after I moved to NZ, and you’ll never know how much it made my day to have some contact with home. I’ll miss you, mate.

Matt, mate, the SEQ rail network won’t be the same without you there to critique every detail. From now on, every train will feel late to me. We’ve worked together on and off since around 2009, and I can absolutely say the days we shared at CRR were the best of my working life—the coffees, the chats (including those outside of work), and especially the laughs. Great times! Most of all, you’ve been a great friend, and I’m going to miss you sorely.

Matt you are one of the good ones and gone far too early. Thank you for the time and knowledge you shared with me, and for being a bloody excellent project manager and all round great bloke. Rest now and enjoy a beer up there.
Rest in peace, Matt. A gentle man. A great father. An all round top bloke. Good at drinking beer too.

Matt,
I’m going to miss so many things about you – your messages about the boys, your new toys and family adventures, and your visits to my work to say ‘Hi’ with bags of fruit in hand.
But what I will miss most is your laugh; the kind that brought happiness the moment you heard it.
You have the biggest heart and are the most genuine human I have ever met. I am so incredibly blessed to be a part of your family.

Matt,
With many of your immediate family of aunties, uncles and cousins living across the country in the West, they were not lucky enough to get to know you as most of us here have done. They never got to see this happy, clever young boy grow to be the man that you were and loved by so many. Quite simply, you were such a great father and such a great bloke.
On behalf of your large family in the west, you have made us so proud and you will be so sadly missed.

We had the pleasure of your family staying at our property for a brief time. We will never forget Matt leaping off the back of the Ute to chase piglets through the grass not knowing where he was going. We will also never forget his wonderful sense of humour and gentle nature that made him the amazing man he was. His spirit and family will always be welcome here at Avoca.
All our love

Though far too early, it's not a surprise
We've had time to plan for our Matt's demise
He wouldn't want stuffy, formal or sad
A relaxed celebration is what's to be had
So come with your stories, both funny and kind
And help us keep Matt in the front of our minds
Dress comfortably and casually; no need for black or formal. We will be mostly outside (weather permitting). The venue will be all at ground level so no need to worry about ascending the stairs.
For your comfort, please bring a hat!
UPDATE: PLEASE CARPOOL IF POSSIBLE AND ARRIVE A LITTLE EARLY AND CONSIDER THE NEIGHBOURS WHEN PARKING.
