Jan believes a funeral or memorial that properly fits the person honoured is the last gift of kindness anyone can offer them. We don’t usually write down all of our achievements over the years, so a funeral or memorial is also a story-telling opportunity to celebrate a life well lived.
Sadly, Jan lost her mother in her early twenties. She remembers how unfitting the funeral was, so became determined to help other people find the right form of farewell for their loved ones. Now Jan performs individually tailored ceremonies, delivered with compassion and heart. She offers families advice and comfort in their grief by providing a full picture of all the options available. Her funeral ceremonies are never one-fits-all service.
Jan meets each family in person and chats through a list of questions to learn about the person being remembered: their birthplace, family history, passions and what made them laugh or cry. Understanding a loved one’s personality, including any favourite sayings and songs, helps Jan create a ceremony to ensure the person farewelled will always be remembered. Pets can even be included in ceremonies upon request – she even had a beloved llama attend a service!
Jan is a non-religious celebrant, but she can incorporate the Lord’s Prayer or Psalm 23 into her ceremony if that is what the client would like. She can also perform scattering of ashes ceremonies, or remembrance ceremonies at a later date
