Since our beginnings in 2019, Bare has strived to stay affordable and accessible for our customers, and were one of the first to adopt an online-only model, moving away from traditional funeral homes.

Since then, many other budget direct cremation services have popped up all over the country, so you may wonder how these compare to Bare, and why some might be even cheaper than us.

How Bare stands out from the rest.

At Bare, we’re with you at every step of the journey, from the first call, to collecting your loved one, to delivering the ashes back to you.

It doesn’t stop there; we also continue to check in weeks and months after your loss, making sure you’re doing okay and that you’ve got the support you need. And if not, we’ll point you in the right direction to get that support.

Bare vs budget cremation services.

At Bare, we’re always willing to go above and beyond for our customers. Whether you’re accessing one of our free services such as the DIY Will, planning ahead and prepaying for your funeral, or you’re organising a cremation for a deceased loved one, you will receive the same level of support, attention and care.

Quality of service.

One criticism traditional funeral homes like to use towards our online model is “you get what you pay for”. As if by choosing a direct cremation for your loved one, it means you’re compromising on quality, care and dignity your loved one deserves.

The incredible care and dedication given from our beautiful customer team is free of charge and included in our services, but with some more budget cremation providers, they don’t reach the same standard.

Whilst you definitely get more than you pay for at Bare, be mindful that other providers may not be available at all times, won’t provide updates to the status of your loved one’s cremation, and won’t reach out to provide ongoing support.

Pricing.

At Bare, we don’t claim to be the cheapest funeral provider; we know that in the past few years more budget direct cremation services are available, which is completely understandable. Some people want no fuss and the absolute lowest price possible.

However, we are still quite affordable, and our slightly higher costs means we can keep our customers as our number one priority, such as going the extra mile to check in on you, keeping you updated about your loved one’s cremation, and where possible, hand delivering ashes to your door.

Other budget providers may not be completely transparent or inclusive with their pricing. For example, in the terms and conditions of Willed Cremations, you’ll find that over-sized coffins are only available at an additional cost.

It is the same for Value Cremations, who also charge additional costs when the location of the deceased is over 70km away from their location, or when a transfer is required outside of business hours.

When you receive a quote for a cremation at Bare, there are no hidden costs or extra fees required, ever. We do not charge extra for late night transfers or over-sized. Our prices are based on location, so you will know exactly what the cost is from the get-go, without any unwanted surprises.

Supporting small businesses.

What might surprise you about some of these cheaper cremation providers is that they’re actually subsidiaries of larger corporations; for example Value Cremations and Simplicity Funerals are both owned and run by Invocare, the largest funeral service provider in Australia. Another example is ABC Cremations, who are owned by Robert Nelson Funerals.

Whilst this isn’t true for all budget cremation and funeral providers, it’s important to decide whether supporting a small or local business is important to you, rather than a large corporation.

Bare are proudly independent and Australian-owned, and we plan to stay that way.

Final thoughts on value and budget cremations.

At the end of the day, you just want a service where your loved one is respected and dealt with the utmost care. Our focus is always the same, on providing an extremely high quality cremation service, at the lowest possible price. A memorial service or funeral can also be added to your Bare arrangement, where one of our celebrants conducts a service separately from the cremation, for an additional but affordable fee.

But as with most things in life, you can find something cheaper if you really want to. Just make sure you’re asking the provider all the right questions to ensure they are transparent, and you know exactly what you’re getting.
